Dental care for disabled persons

For persons with severe or profound physical or mental disabilities, the health insurance fund allows the provision of dental care under general and local anesthesia for medical purposes. The health insurance fund reimburses dental care without limits to people with the following conditions:

  • Mental personality peculiarities due to which the patient is not able to ensure oral hygiene even with adequate instruction. These include intellectual disability (profound intellectual disability), autism spectrum disorder, dementia or another mental condition (e.g. severe chronic psychosis).

  • Physical conditions caused by illness due to which the person is unable to perform oral hygiene procedures. These include paralysis conditions, movement disorders, congenital or acquired physical peculiarities.
